In 1914, Martin was working as an Insurance Agent when he noticed an advertisement describing land For Sale at West Ryde being offered through Raine and Horne.
The land was being offered by John Gregory BLAXLAND of the City of Goulburn, Esquire and Frederick BLAXLAND of Cooma, Solicitor.

Martin subsequently purchased Lot 13 Section 4 of Deposited Plan 3646 being part of One Hundred acres (Portion 50 of the Parish) granted to William KENT by Crown Grant dated the twenty third day of September One thousand seven hundred and ninety seven. The property was shown as being 1 rood 2 perches in area. It is now known as 19 Maxim Street, West Ryde.
Certificate of Title was dated 23 march 1914 and was registered as Volume 2460 Folio 20. Acopy is shown below.

Martin later sold this property on 4th April 1917 to Annie MORRIS wife of Thomas MORRIS of Concord, Coachbuilder.
Newspaper report later showed the sales made and prices that had been fetched on 14 February 1914.
